What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was created by Francine Shapiro, PhD. It is an accepted evidenced based practice for treating PTSD and other life events that have resulted in emotional distress. EMDR helps to connect what we feel to what we know and allows an individual to reprocess something that is distressing in order for healing to occur.
What should I expect in EMDR?
There are 8 phases of EMDR
Phase 1: History taking
Phase 2: Preparation-Resources
Phase 3: Assessment-what will be worked on
Phase 4: Desensitization-decreasing distress
Phase 5: Installation-installing the new positive cognition
Phase 6: Body Scan-release of somatic symptoms associated with the target
Phase 7: Closure
Phase 8: Reevaluate
